Perspectives of Home

December 3rd, 2021 – February 25th, 2022

The Galleries @ WORK_SPACE in partnership with EPOCH (Engaged, Public, Oral and Community Histories in the History Department at UConn) are coordinating an Art Exhibit with companion programs that explore how where we live impacts who we are, our feelings of belonging and our sense of place. Through archival research, in-depth interviews, community conversations and an art exhibit with didactic wall panels, Perspectives of Home will highlight the many threads woven into the story of Manchester, CT’s historic evolution from a mill town to a vibrant, diverse and thriving community including the inequitable opportunities that exist for its citizens. Please visit us weekdays 10am-4pm or during our 2nd Saturday open house which includes the exhibit, gallery shop and special events with artists.

Memoir & Monologue by Stacey Zackin

January: 3, 10, 24, 31 & February: 7
6:30pm – 8pm on Zoom

Participants will share their work at an Evening of Story & Song on Feb. 24, 6:30-8:30pm at WORK_SPACE.

Through collaborative exercises and creative writing assignments that stimulate memory, imagination, metaphor, and sensory perception, writers of all types and level of experience will reflect upon their past and more skillfully author their future.

Facilitator: Led by WORK_SPACE Manager, Stacey Zackin, PhD, MSW, PCC, who has degrees in Film/Photography, worked in Hollywood for over a decade, and studied storytelling as part of her Doctoral program in Depth Psychology.

Cost: $99 ($79 for those who register by 12/24, $39 for WORK_SPACE and Galleries @ WORK_SPACE members), participants who complete the 5 sessions and share their 5-8 minute stories during an evening of Storytelling on Feb. 24th will receive a $50 honorarium.

Big Yarn Weaving 101

Author, artist and art therapist Kimberly Heil leads participants through a simple yet impressive weaving project from the comfort of their own home. Class is $15 an includes art kit to be picked up at WORK_SPACE. Must RSVP by Jan. 21st so we can order supplies.

Roundtable Conversation: Perspectives of Home

Dr. Fiona Vernal, Associate Professor of History and Africana Studies and Director of EPOCH at UConn discusses the history and future of housing equity with special guests. Moderated by Manchester native and WORK_SPACE Manager, Stacey Zackin, PhD, MSW, PCC. Event is free, however RSVPs are required to reserve a seat at the event or receive access to watch online.

Feb. 12, 2022 – Love Local Artisan Pop-Up Shop during our monthly 2nd Saturday Gallery Open House

  • 10am-12pm Fiona Vernal of EPOCH @ UConn will serve as a docent to lead tours and answer questions about her research on housing in Manchester.
  • 10am-2pm – A traditional artisan pop-up shop with lots of fun, functional and non-traditional items to buy for yourself and those you love just before Valentine’s Day.


Evening of Stories & Songs

Participants from Memoir & Monologue, a 5-week workshop, share a personal story that has a universal appeal. They will be joined in the Main Street Gallery @ WORK_SPACE by local musicians for this last event during the Perspectives of Home exhibit which closes Feb. 25th. FREE but registration is required to reserve a seat or get access to the event online.
