FREE TO BE YOU AND ME – a presentation by Kamora Herrington of the Kamora’s Cultural Corner

Herrington, who holds a BS in Human Services from Springfield College has over 20 years of experience in the human services field and has become a vocal advocate for LGBT youth.

Kamora is the Vice Chairperson for the City of Hartford Commission on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Issues. She is a Cultural Competence trainer for the City of Hartford’s Youth Development Practitioners Academy and Middle Management Institute as well as a consultant for the State of Connecticut’s Safe Harbors Program, which ensures the safety and well-being of LGBT youth in out-of-home care.

 

JAZZ: A GIFT TO THE WORLD – a performance with the Nita Zarif Trio

Nita Zarif, one of Hartford’s best and most loved singers since making her debut in her early 20s at Hartford’s now legendary 880 Club — the South End jazz bastion presided over by Al Casasanta, Hartford’s “Godfather of Jazz” — Zarif has set a high standard for jazz singing while displaying her eminently likeable stage-presence.

Gwendolyn Quezaire-Presutti

Michele Gara

James Black, 3rd Eye Studio

James is the author of Waldo and the Ramblings on Man. This author and poet, is a trained teacher, former talk show host, semi-professional soccer player, avid reader, inspirational speaker, and an amateur guitarist.

Julia Morris Paul

Julia Morris Paul, an elder law attorney in Manchester, was named the town’s first poet laureate in 2014. She is a founding member of the Connecticut Coalition of Poets Laureate and serves on the boards of several poetry organizations. Julia Paul is a poet of fierce compassion and lyric grace

Frederick Douglass Knowles, II

Frederick-Douglass Knowles II is a poet, educator and activist involved in community education. He is the inaugural Poet Laureate for the City of Hartford. His collection of poetry, “BlackRoseCity” was featured at the 2018 Association of Writers & Writing Programs

Ryan Parker

Ryan T. Parker is a Manchester based poet, teacher of the year recipient, and artivist. Influenced by the strength, wisdom and humor of his mom, love for hip hop and people, his practices with tutoring at ECSU, and his personal frustrations with his own educational experiences and education system as a whole (his 10th grade English teacher had a sign in her classroom which read, “Silence is Golden” –Ahhh! Freaky stuff!), Ryan developed a passion for teaching and promised himself he would break that golden silence and bring golden noise into education! In addition to teaching middle school students, Ryan also consults with educators running workshops and professional developments centered on The Open Mic Movement in Education and teaching educators strategies for establishing and maintaining effective classroom environments.

WORK_SPACE’s* second annual Holiday Pop-Up Shoppe will take place the week following Thanksgiving. This 3-day market will open on December 5th to coincide with both the Town of Manchester’s annual Tree Lighting on Main Street and our own Beer & Business Networking Happy Hour.

We welcome a diverse and talented array of local artists to submit applications which will be accepted on a rolling basis until space is filled. Vendors are not required to be present for all 3 days; however, at least 9 hours must be spent on-site during 2 of the 3 days to help to tend to their individual booth as well as the event as a whole.
